Show Up // Campaign for SFCASA, Court-Appointed Advocates for Foster Children
CASA, or Court-Appointed Special Advocates, pairs children in foster care with dedicated adult volunteers who serve as a steady, caring presence as they move through the complexities of the system. Yet many potential volunteers hesitate, imagining the role requires someone saintly, heroic, or larger than life. In truth, what these kids need most is something far simpler: someone who shows up, consistently and authentically, just as they are.

These two spots each move through the world alongside a child in foster care, showing all the moments where a volunteer could show up for them.
Out-Of-Home
Moving Through // Short Film
Dancer Kardale Holland entered the foster care system at age 13 and his life was forever changed, forced to grapple with a spectrum of experience and emotions that would be hard enough for any adult. He never had the kind of support that a CASA volunteer provides. As a dancer, he has found movement to be a singularly powerful way for him to process and share his story, one that is difficult—but important—to hear.
The film, Moving Through, offers an unflinching view into one story in the hopes that viewers will be motivated to help SFCASA in their mission of giving all foster children the opportunity to thrive. It was a creative collaboration between myself and my partner, Kardale, and visionary director/cinematographer/composer LAKE Ѫ. Each step of the conceptual development and production was marked by genuine connection and serendipity. I truly believe the universe wanted it made.
